Walter Joseph Binder, Jr., a resident of Long Beach, Indiana, passed peacefully into eternity on Sunday morning, November 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1010 Moore Road, Long Beach, Indiana with Rev. Jaunius Kelpsa officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass
Saturday at the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Rima, and their daughter, Kristine of Chicago and son, Anthony with wife Mary Spada, of Allison Park, PA.; grandchildren, Katherine, Emily, Sarah, and Jack Nader, all of Chicago, and Titas and Lukas Binder. Relatives include Walter’s sister, Donna Meersman (Vero Beach, FL) and her children and grandchildren, his late sister Darlene’s children, Courtney, Skylar, and Dustin Gilbert, Rima’s sister Victoria and husband Mark Matranga with their children and grandchildren, along with many relatives in the U.S. and Lithuania.
Walter loved jazz, tending his bonsai trees, traveling, reading history, and cooking. He will be remembered for his zest for life, music, family ski trips to Colorado, and hosting countless family feasts.
Walter Binder was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 4, 1937. He
graduated from Loyola Academy in 1956. While attending the University of Illinois. At Navy Pier in 1957, he met the love of his life, Rima Kasuba. Walter and Rima were married on November 24, 1962. Walter served in the U. S. Army from 1961 until 1963. He attended Northwestern University in the evenings while working as an insurance adjustor in Chicago. After graduating from Northwestern in 1969, Walter attended Kent College of Law, from which he graduated in 1973. The
Binders were long-time residents of Cary, IL, where Walter established his law firm. In 2004, they settled in Long Beach to enjoy golf and year-round lakeside living.
