Lyman James Zolvinski

Lyman James Zolvinski, February 10, 1947 - November 8, 2024.
Lyman James Zolvinski, 77, from Michigan City, Indiana, passed away in the hospital surrounded by his wife and children on November 8, 2024.
The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2024, at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception, 411 W. 11th St., Michigan City, Indiana, with Rev. Zachary Glick officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, is handling the arrangements.
Lyman was born on February 10, 1947, in Michigan City, to the late Frank and Frances Rose (Foldenauer) Zolvinski. On September 2, 1967, he married Helen Anne (Lulinski) Zolvinski, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Otis, Indiana.  Lyman grew up as the oldest of seven. He met the love of his life, Helen, at Saint Mary’s High School. They graduated in 1965 and were married just before Lyman left for honorable service to his country in the United States Army during The Vietnam War, serving from 1966 to 1969.  He returned to Purdue University, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. Lyman obtained his Professional Engineering and Structural
Engineering licenses and had a long engineering career with the Indiana Steel Mills, Amoco Oil, and then at his professional firm, Zolvinski Engineering until retirement.
Lyman always put others first and himself last. Lyman and Helen never missed a game, a family event, or anything the kids were involved in.  Their home on Kent Road was often the neighborhood meeting place for the Zolvinski children and all their friends. They have also proudly supported Purdue Athletics as donors in the John Purdue Club for over 40 years, attending hundreds of tailgates and sporting events.
Lyman was a member of St. Mary at the Immaculate Conception, Michigan
City, and St. Joseph Young Men's Society for many years.  Lyman loved Helen, his kids, grandkids, great-granddaughter, brothers, sisters, and their families, Purdue sports, Professional Engineering, and telling jokes and making people laugh.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Helen, are six children, Jane (Chester) Ho, Anna Zolvinski, Adam (Julie) Zolvinski, Elizabeth (Delaney) Haar, Zachary (Andrea) Zolvinski, and Jenevieve Zolvinski; ten grandchildren, Rachel (Alex) Close, Charlie Ho, Lucy Ho, Gavin Zolvinski, Megan Zolvinski, Allison Zolvinski, Julian Haar, Jack Haar, Laurel Zolvinski, and Meredith Zolvinski; great-granddaughter, Harper Close; and six siblings, Maryann (Bill) Davenport, Frank (Sue) Zolvinski, Steven Zolvinski, Matt Zolvinski, Mike (Margie) Zolvinski, and Jackie (Patrick) Lorzing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Therese Zolvinski, wife of Matt Zolvinski.
