Lyman Duke Perkins Jr., 80, of La Porte, IN, passed away on November 1, 2024, at Miller's Health and Rehab.
Lyman was born on January 6, 1944, to Lyman Perkins, Sr. and Dorothy (Patton) Perkins.
Lyman's survivors are his sister, Dorothy Schmidt; two nieces, Susan Yarde and Peggy (Mark) Olive; and four nephews, Les (Sharon) Yarde, Greg Yarde, Bill (Sandra) Perkins, and Jeff (Jeanne) Perkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elaine Rogers; and 2 brothers, Billy W. and Donald E. Perkins.
After graduating from Lew Wallace High School in 1961, Lyman was hired by the IN Highway Commission as a highway trainee. He completed an IHC training program at Purdue University, Indianapolis. This completion led to a 40+ year career with INDOT. Outside of work, Lyman enjoyed Moto Cross racing, riding his Harley motorcycles, and drag racing, particularly his 1972 Nova Super Sport. He also enjoyed photography, fishing, camping, and cooking, with his specialty being Perk's 3-Alarm chili. Lyman was an Indianapolis Colts fan, as well. He held an Amateur Radio license, which he used to create relationships near and far.
Visitation for Lyman will be held from 12 - 12:30 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. A Graveside Service will immediately follow at Pine Lake Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be planned for Spring 2025.
Lyman loved to give a good home to rescued cats. Out of this love for cats, the family kindly requests that any memorials be made to Fried's Cat Shelter, 509 IN-212, Michigan City, IN 46360, or to the Michiana Humane Society, 722 Indiana Hwy 212, Michigan City, IN 46360.
