Gregory Wayne Crites

Gregory Wayne Crites, 65, passed away unexpectedly at 1:07 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2024 in Michigan City.

He was born on September 16, 1958, in La Porte, to Glenn and Cleo (Davis) Crites.

On October 19, 1985, in Valparaiso, he married Patricia Gethers who preceded him in death.

Greg, a gentle and reserved man with a contagious laugh, was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, no matter how big or small the task. He was committed to hard work.

As a Union Carpenter with Local 1485, he showcased his meticulous talent as a finish carpenter, reflecting his dedication to his craft. Alongside his wife, Greg once owned a business called “White Pine Landscaping”.

Despite his professional pursuits, Greg made time for his hobbies, such as golf, fishing, and spending quality time with his family in Spooner, Wisconsin.

Greg's other passions included helping his daughter and son-in-law care for their draft horses, creating art through pencil and charcoal drawings, yoga, and music – he had a beautiful singing voice.

His greatest love was his late wife, Patty. He honored her memory by maintaining her beautiful flower gardens and keeping his property in pristine condition.

His deep thoughts on life, faith in God, and his introspective nature resulted in frequent, lengthy conversations with his close friends and his daughter.

Greg had deep connections with those he loved, including his dog, Cleo, who he would rock to sleep, like a baby, every night.

His family and friends will always love and miss him deeply, but our comfort comes from knowing he is now with his Lord and Savior and has been reconnected with the love of his life, Patty.

Surviving is his daughter, Stephenie (John) Dreessen; brother, Darrell (Sharon) Crites; sister, Jody (Mark Lawson); sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betsy” Goodpasture; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100. Visitation and viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service with Rev. Dorothy Jones officiating.

Cremation will later take place.
