Mary Margaret Rasmussen

Mary Margaret Rasmussen, 98, Long Beach, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Illinois

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2024 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1010 Moore Road, Long Beach, IN with Rev. Keith McClellan officiating. Entombment will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of mass Monday at the church.

She was born on June 7, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Patrick Joseph and Winifred (Kelly) Farrell.

On December 2, 1950, at St. Laurence Catholic Church, in Chicago, Illinois, she married Aloysius B. Rasmussen, who preceded her in death on December 16, 2021.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo (Jim) Vail of Tinley Park, Illinois and Lorraine (Rodney) Mannion of La Porte, Indiana; two sons, Terrence (Joan) Rasmussen and Timothy Rasmussen both of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Patrick Joseph (Eric) Farrell of San Francisco, California; eight grandchildren, Erin Mannion, Joanne Rasmussen, Tim Rasmussen, Chelsea Rasmussen, James (Erin) Vail, Kathleen (Kevin) Norris, Rebecca (Robert) Rusch, and Jennifer (Michael) Griffin; eighteen great-grandchildren, David, Mary Kate, Jimmy, Tommy, Sarah, Julia, Billy, Tony, Bobby, Owen, Brady, Mickey, Clare, Josephine, Nyja, Ayden, Levi and Mya; and two great-great-grandchildren, Sophie and Owen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aloysius B. Rasmussen; one son, Bernard Rasmussen; three sisters, Winifred Ferguson, Pat Farrell and Jo Bruno; and two brothers, Edward and Jack Farrell.

She was a licensed Real-Estate Broker in Michigan City. Mary was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and was a devoted member and past president of the Michigan City chapter of the non-for-profit Birthright pro-life pregnancy support organization for over 25 years. She was very involved and supported the organization and made many efforts to help those pregnant women in need.
