John Alvin Fry

June 2, 1951 - July 13, 2024

John Alvin Fry, age 73, of La Porte, Indiana, peacefully passed away on July 13, 2024 with his family by his side.

John was born on June 2, 1951 to Alvin and Clara (Frye) Fry who preceded him in death.

John’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife, Peggy (Rowley) Fry; as well as his children, Michael (Mary) Fry of Florida and Michelle (Jason Gimmy) Fry of La Porte, Indiana, his grandchildren, Katherine Dolan-Bennett of Florida and Jonathan Fry of Indiana, brother, Ronald E. Fry, niece, Amanda (David) Jensen with his great nephews, Caleb and Gage of Tennessee, and his special cousin, Christina (James) Daulton of Michigan City, Indiana.

He is also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Diane (Rex) Larison, his cousin, Clara (Gene) Wright, and his grandmother, Helen Hanna.

John was mechanically inclined from a young age. There was nothing he couldn’t do. John could build, rebuild and restore anything. His love of cars was monumental. John loved to restore cars in their entirety. From engine to bodywork, he did it all. John has restored over 100 cars in his lifetime and continued his passion throughout his life, up until his passing.

John loved garage and estate sales, antiques, he was a HAM radio operator and had a profound love of music— specifically oldies, classic country, blues, and gospel (namely, Elvis.) He loved to road trip and go on special drives with Peggy.

He was a man of his word to all he met and if any one needed his help, he wouldn’t hesitate. John adored cats and passionately cared for the many who wandered onto their property. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
