La Porte lost a beloved member of its community on June 25, 2024, with the passing of Jeanne E. Hatten at the age of 102.

 

Born on March 27, 1922, in La Porte, IN,  Jeanne's life was marked by love, care, and devotion to her family.  Jeanne dedicated her days to being a nurturing homemaker, focusing on raising her children with unwering love and support.  Her commitment to her family was evident in stitch she lovingly crafted as a member of the Knit Wits of Hamilton.  Known for her passion for knitting and creating warmth through her handcrafted pieces, Jeanne found joy in simple pleasures and shared that joy generously with those around her.

 

A woman of grace and kindness, Jeanne touched the lives of many through her presence. She was a steadfast pillar of support for family and friends, always offering a listening ear and a comforting embrace when needed. Her warm personality and gentle spirit earned her a special place in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

 

Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband John A., her father Frank Jones, and her mother Blanche (Osborn) Jones. She is also reunited with her uncle Thomas Osborn in eternal peace. Jeanne leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished by her surviving family and friends.

 

She is survived by her daughters Donna Hoffer-Brown and Joni J. (Steve) Holmquest, as well as grandchildren Mike, Mary, Rodney, Dyllen, Cody, Christopher. Her memory will also be carried on by her great-grandchildren Kenneth.

 

A memorial gathering to honor Jeanne's life will take place on July 1, 2024, from 3 PM until 8 PM at Haverstock Funeral Home 602 Maple Ave. in La Porte, IN. 46350.

 

The gathering will be an opportunity for all who knew Jeanne to come together and celebrate a life well lived. In honoring Jeanne E. Hatten's memory, let us carry forward the values of love, kindness, and compassion that she so effortlessly embodied. May she rest in peace knowing she leaves behind a timeless legacy of warmth and affection that will continue to touch hearts for generations to come.
