Bobette Carol (Haverstock) Elkins, 76, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away Sunday, June 16th, 2024, at Millers Merry Manor in New Carlisle, IN.
She was born November 3rd, 1947, in Laporte, Indiana, the daughter of Robert Haverstock and Bonnie Jean (Wolfe) Haverstock.
A lifelong resident of the area, Bobette graduated from Rolling Prairie High School before entering cosmetology school to begin her career as a hairdresser. On April 3rd, 1965, in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, she married the love of her life, Jeffery Elkins, who preceded her in death., January 31st, 2023. Together they enjoyed camping and taking trips around the USA. They were also members of the First United Methodist Church of Rolling Prairie, where Bobette was a member of the Methodist Church Ladies Club. She was also a member of the Rolling Prairie Lionette's Club. Christmas was Bobette's favorite holiday and over the years she collected Snow Babies and Disney memorabilia. She loved angels, knowing they protected her throughout her journey in life. Bobette enjoyed creating different crafts, especially flower arrangements. Her passion, though, was her family. Bobette created a dynasty of family get-togethers, making her famous pies and creamy cucumber salad, and passing it on to her children for generations to come.
She is survived by her two daughters, Tammy (Karl) Dorr of Caledonia, MI, Charlotte "Crissy" (Donald Jr) Blint of Rolling Prairie, IN; three sons, Dale (Samantha) Elkins of New Carlisle, IN, Robert (Danita) Elkins of New Carlisle, IN, Shawn Elkins of South Bend, IN; brother, Charles (Nancy) Haverstock of Florida; two sisters, Brenda (David) DePoy of Rolling Prairie, Debra Baughman of Michigan; two half-sisters, Elizabeth Latham of La Porte, IN, Vicky McCray of Gary, IN; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Along with her husband of 57 years, Bobette was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edward L. Haverstock, and brother-in-law, Terry Baughman.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, June 28 from 12 noon until the service time at 3 p.m. Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick of the Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Rolling Prairie Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, Indiana.
