Carolyn Sue Dierdorf

Carolyn Sue Dierdorf, 77, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away, on Monday, June 10th, 2024, in her home.

On March 1st, 1947, In La Porte, she was born to Wayne and Gloria (Kennedy) Dierdorf.

Surviving are her brothers, Michael (Janet) Bailey of New Carlisle, IN, and William Dierdorf of Florida; sister, Melanie Diane Dierdorf of Florida; half-sister, Tina Goodrich of Michigan; nephews, Jeffery and Jason Bailey of New Carlisle, and Doug Dierdorf of Florida; and nieces, Melanie (Edward) Fisher of Michigan City and Gabrielle Osowski of Michigan.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, David Dierdorf; sisters, Eileen Dierdorf and Deborah; nephew Michael LaFollette, and stepmother, Emma Jean Dierdorf.

Carolyn graduated from Elston High School in 1965 and went on to earn a degree in Elementary Education from Spring Arbor College, Spring Arbor, Michigan, in 1969, and earned her Master's Degree from Indiana University. One of her most exciting adventures was teaching at the American School in Kuwait from 1975 to 1977.

Travel was a big part of her life. When the American School in Kuwait was on breaks, she and a group of teachers would take the opportunity to travel around that corner of the world. One Easter was spent visiting the pyramids in Egypt. She kept in touch with her fellow teachers and traveled to Hawaii and Seattle to visit. Another trip took her on a whirlwind tour of Germany with a local church group.

Carolyn devoted her spare time to her obsession with genealogy. She spent many hours working with her Clay County Genealogy Society to document the Dierdorf history and visiting area cemeteries to get as much information as possible. Many of the memorials on "Find-A-Grave" were submitted by Carolyn.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan City Free Methodist Church, 3001 Ohio St., Michigan City, IN 46360, Saint John Cemetery in Brazil, Indiana, or Clay County Genealogy Society, Clay County, Indiana.
