Gloria Mae Slisher, 89, Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, in her home surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Home Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Brother Shaun Gray, C.S.C. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral chapel.
Gloria was born August 30th, 1934, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Frank and Alice (Sobocinski) Bielski. She married Vernon Slisher on May 30, 1953, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, in Michigan City, Indiana. Vernon preceded her in death in March of 1970.
Surviving are three sons, Douglas Slisher, Keith Slisher, and Bryan Slisher; three grandchildren, Daniel, Jessica, and Rebecca; brother-in-law, Claude (Connie) Slisher; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; and eldest son, Gordon Slisher, who passed away on September 6th, 2021.
Gloria was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to flowers throughout her life. Her homes reflected each season and holiday celebrated, especially Christmas. She loved animals and adopted numerous dogs from rescue shelters throughout her life. In addition, she gave generously to those in underserved communities and had long ties with the Navajo Nation in Northeast Arizona. Gloria made friends wherever she went and within the various communities in which she lived, especially in Branson, Missouri. She spent over 30 years in the area and met many visiting entertainers and was an enthusiastic advocate for the surrounding area. Moreover, Gloria was an astute businesswoman, smart and engaging.
Above all, Gloria remained a devout Catholic her entire life. She drew great strength from her faith throughout her years and especially at her life’s end. Her generous and loving spirit inspired many and will long be remembered.
