Mr. Pedro H. Huerta, a beloved man who touched the lives of many, passed away Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, at 3:22 pm at Northwest Health La Porte in La Porte, IN.
He was born May 4th, 1941, in Puebla, Mexico. Pedro's love for his family was evident in all he did. Family was the main focus of his life. Pedro had a kind and welcoming personality, always putting others at ease with his great sense of humor and compassion to help others.
He attended El Colegio Benavente in Puebla and studied Civil Engineering at the University Autenoma de Puebla.
He came to the United States in 2003, first living in Lake Station. He lived in Portage for 27 years and in La Porte for 20 years. He worked at US Steel, Gary Works, for 28 years before retiring in 2003. He landed a summer job at Huber's Marine on Pine Lake as a ramp attendant. Twelve years ago, he took on a position as "Head of Operations" in the Wellness Room at the YMCA in La Porte. He gained the reputation of having an impeccable work ethic as a reliable employee and an ingenious mechanic who could fix anything you got.
Pedro is survived by his wife, Lynn, of 46 years, his son Christopher Pedro Huerta, his grandson Judah Christopher Huerta, and many relatives and friends in Mexico and here in the United States.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Ana Marie, seven sisters, and two brothers. He was the youngest child in a large family.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4th from 12 noon until 3 PM. A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 pm at the funeral home. An interment will follow at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
