Ronald W. Scherer

Ronald W. Scherer, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at Millers Health and Rehab in La Porte.

  

Ronald was born in La Porte, Indiana on January 17th, 1936, to Wilbur and Pearl Scherer.

 

On January 23rd, 1954, in La Porte, IN, he married Joan Elaine Luther who preceded him on December 20, 2020.  Surviving are his 3 sons, Terry (Renee) Scherer, Greg M. Scherer, and Jeff Scherer, all of La Porte; 6 grandchildren, Noelle Anderson, Nicole McIntire, and Brittany, Andrew, Kathryn, and Curtis Scherer; 4 great-grandchildren, Daven, Tatum, Willow, and Faith Anderson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Curtis Scherer; and grandson, David Matthew Scherer.

 

Ronald worked as a civil engineer at Midwest Steel in Portage, Indiana.  He was an usher and the chairman of the board of elders at St. John's Lutheran Church.  Ronald enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping, and family get-togethers.  He was very active and busy with his family and friends.  Ronald was the assistant coach for Little League, was active in Boy Scouts, and pitched fast-pitch softball for the Lucky Cigars.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

   

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Ken Schaeffer officiating.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
