Edward Clyde Nilson

Edward Clyde Nilson, 72, of Union Mills, Indiana, passed away on Friday, February 23rd, 2024, at VNA Hospice Center.

 

Edward was born in La Porte, IN, on May 1st, 1951, to Edward Maux and Winifred Dorothy Marie (Hazeltine) Nilson.

 

On September 23rd, 1972, in La Porte, IN, he married Pamela Holloway, who survives. Also surviving are his 2 children, Heather (Ken) Lorraine Nix of La Porte and Leif Edward Nilson of Union Mills; 2 grandsons, Kyle Edward Nix of Mishawaka and Conner Wesley Nix of La Porte, and a sister, Winifred Landis of Lafayette; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren and Wesley Nilson; and sister, Julieanne Nilson.

 

From September 1969 to January 1972, Edward proudly served in the United States Army.  He served in Korea and Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne.

 

Edward was a Millwright for over 30 years, where he served as past president and treasurer for Local 1043.  He was actively involved in the National Muzzle Loaders Rifle Association and served as president and treasurer with the Menominee Muzzle Loaders.  Edward enjoyed camping, canoeing, and portraying a pirate in living history reenactments.  He was an avid Risk and Chess player, as well as an avid outdoorsman.  Edward was a past Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Military Honors will take place at 1 p.m.
