Forrest "Barney" Barnhart, 84, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on February 7th, 2024, at Northwest Health La Porte.

 

Barney was born in Springfield, OH, on May 28th, 1939, to Forrest Delano Barnhart Sr. and Mary (Clabaugh) Barnhart.

 

On May 4th, 1962, in South Bend, IN, he married Judith (Martin) Barnhart who survives.  Also surviving is his son, Craig Barnhart of La Porte.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Esther.

 

Barney spent many years working as a metallurgist for Kingsbury Castings.  He also owned and operated Barnhart Automotive for over 50 years.  Barney greatly enjoyed his work as a high-performance, racing engine builder.

 

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1 - 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 17th, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Cremation will take place following the gathering.
