Phillip "Phil" Terry Alban

Phillip "Phil" Terry Alban, 83, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024.

 

Phillip was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, on October 2nd, 1940, to George and Ethel (Neiderer) Alban.  

 

On July 2nd, 1960, in La Porte, Indiana, he married Barbara Fowler with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage.  Also surviving are his two daughters, Julie (Shawn) Hannon and Cindy (Roger) Jackson, all of La Porte; 2 granddaughters, Erin and Haley Hannon, both of La Porte; step-grandchildren, Roger (Amy) Jackson, Ryan (Emily) Jackson, and Kayte Jackson; brother, Clyde Alban; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Terri Jean Alban; and 5 siblings.

 

Phil graduated from La Porte High School in 1959.  During his school sports career, he ran track and played football.  In 1959, Phil was named to the NIC All-Conference Football Team playing as an End.  He proudly earned the nickname "Speedy" for his many track and football awards. 

 

Phil worked in management for multiple manufacturing companies.  His last job before retiring was with Whirlpool Corporation. 

 

Phil was a lifelong member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 492 where he served for 53 years.  In 2001, he received the Moose's highest honor of Pilgrim Degree in the House of God.  Phil was a former manager of the Maple City Cadets.  He was an avid Notre Dame fan and loved attending the La Porte Slicer football and baseball games.  He enjoyed listening to the Beach Boys and watching NASCAR.  Phil liked his time on the front porch where he enjoyed his coffee.  More than anything, he loved his family fiercely. 

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 8th, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. The service will begin with a Pilgrim Memorial Service presented by the Pilgrim Degree of Merit.

 

The visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday.  

 

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 492, 925 Boyd Blvd., La Porte, IN  46350.
