Erwin "Jack" Newenhouse, Sr.

Erwin "Jack" Newenhouse, Sr., 79, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, at 12:10 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, January 15th, 2024, at St. John United Church of Christ, 101 St. John Road, Michigan City, Indiana with  Pastor William Fine officiating. Visitation hours will be from 1:00 pm -5:00 pm, Sunday in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, and Monday from 10:00 am until time service Monday, January 15th, 2024, at the St. John United Church of Christ.   

 

He was born September 1st, 1944, in Oskaloosa, Iowa to the late Charles and Clara (Biesaboer) Newenhouse. On February 8th, 1964, in South Holland, Illinois he married Patricia C. Ford who survives in Michigan City, Indiana. Also surviving are daughter, Tammy (Richard Szarek) Newenhouse along with two sons, Jack (Michele Strawmier) Newenhouse Jr., and Richard C. (Denitta) Newenhouse all of Michigan City, Indiana;  grandchildren, Richard C. Newenhouse, II, Camrynn Newenhouse, Nina P. (Tyler) Heninger, Jackson "Cody" Newenhouse, Seth C. Newenhouse, Jace V. Newenhouse, Kassie (Will) Wisk, and Alyssa Kniola;  great-grandchildren, Nayden Thornton, Teagan Heninger, Casen Heninger, Delaney Newenhouse, Levi Wisk, Remi Wisk, Olin Wisk, Natalie Frye, Ellie Frye, and Wesley Eldridge; brother, Roger (Betty) Newenhouse of Lansing, Illinois; He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandy Newenhouse, Marilyn Newenhouse and brother, Virgil Newenhouse;   

 

In 1967 in Harvey, Illinois Jack and Patricia opened and operated Jack's Auto Sales. Then in 1982, they opened  Homestead Motors, Inc. Highland, Indiana and in 1998 they opened a second Homestead Motors dealership in  Portage, Indiana.  He was a member of the Indiana Independent Auto Dealer's Association and a former member of the Michigan City Yacht Club. He attended St. John United Church of Christ and enjoyed boating, and fishing in Minnesota and the Florida Keys.  Jack enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, snowmobiles, golf, and RV camping.
