Mary Margaret Hardy, 91, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana passed away on January 3rd, 2024.
Mary was born on October 6th, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Irish immigrants James and Sarah (Carabine) Doherty.
Mary was an educator having taught in the Chicago Public School System and New Prairie United School Corporation for over 40 years, retiring in 2011. For 13 years, Mary worked as a receptionist at LeMans Academy in Rolling Prairie.
She graduated from Chicago Teachers College and Indiana University with a Masters in Education. She was a member of St. John Kanty Catholic Church and St. Justin Martyr in Chicago. Mary was also a proud member of NEA and ISTA.
Mary is survived by her children, Patricia Hardy of Rolling Prairie, Cathleen Hardy of Rolling Prairie, and James Hardy (Joey Christine Molenda), and grandchildren James and Brooks Hardy of Chicago. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Helen Doherty.
People remember Mary as a creative and dedicated educator who touched the lives of her students. Her friends and family found her enthusiasm for life and her positive attitude contagious.
Mary will be laid to rest privately at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Chicago.
