Matthew William Kremp, known affectionately as Matt to his friends and loved ones, passed away on December 6th, 2023, at the age of 58, in Farmington, New Mexico. He was born on March 2nd, 1965, in Bloomington, Indiana. 

 

Matt’s early years were spent in La Porte, Indiana, where he graduated from St. Joseph Elementary School and LaPorte High School. He furthered his education at Vincennes University, laying the foundation for his future endeavors. Matt attended the Cross Roads Community Church in Farmington, where he generously contributed his carpentry skills to numerous projects.

 

Professionally, Matt was a self-employed Master Carpenter, known for his exquisite staircases and fine attention to detail. His talents extended beyond woodwork, as he was also an expert auto mechanic. Matt’s work was not only a means of livelihood but also an expression of his artistic spirit and commitment to excellence.

 

Matt’s love for sports and community shone through his years of coaching the Farmington Slicers girls’ softball team. His leadership and enthusiasm helped guide the team to numerous victories, including local, New Mexico State, and National Championships. His mentorship left a lasting impact on many young athletes.

An adventurer at heart, Matt relished the time spent in the great outdoors. He was an expert downhill skier, having embraced the challenges of the mountain slopes in the Four Corners region. He had a love for nature which also extended to hunting, fishing, and camping.

 

Those who knew Matt would describe him as loving, adventurous, and creative. His zest for life and ability to infuse love into everything he did were truly remarkable. His presence was a source of joy and inspiration to his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

 

Matt is survived by a loving family that includes his father, Dr. Stanley M. (Donna) Kremp of Fredericksburg, Texas; his mother, Margaret (Maggie) M. LeRoy of La Porte, Indiana; his children, Megan (Eddie) Jacquez of Farmington, New Mexico, Kiley Kremp Morris of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Madison Kremp of Farmington, New Mexico, and Michael (Kelsey Foley) Vicente of Mill Creek, Washington. He had two grandchildren, Rylynn and Apollo Jacquez. He will also be fondly remembered by his siblings, Michael R. Kremp of La Porte, Indiana, and Jennifer (Cyril) Oake of Hamilton, Michigan. Matt is also survived by step brothers and sister, Timothy (Karen) LeRoy of San Antonio, Texas, Debra (Jimmy Shaw) LeRoy of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, and Thomson LeRoy of Kerrville, Texas; and his aunt, Martha (Les) Begley of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding Matt in death were his brother, John Kremp, and his grandparents, Dr. John and Jean Mundy, and Richard and Rebecca Kremp.

 

Matt’s journey through life was cut short by pancreatic cancer, yet his spirit and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy is one of love, adventure, and creativity—a life well-lived and well-loved. As we say goodbye to Matthew William Kremp, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on this world and the countless lives he enriched.

 

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 12th, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana, where a Parish Vigil service with Fr. Bill O’Toole will begin at 6:45 p.m. 

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13th, 2023, at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Church, 109 C. Street, La Porte, Indiana. Reverends Nate Edquist, Ian Williams, and Gordon Kalil will concelebrate. Burial will follow at Posey Chapel Cemetery in La Porte County.
