Judge Paul James Baldoni

It is with profound respect and deep affection that we announce the passing of Judge Paul James Baldoni, a pillar of the La Porte community and a beacon of justice, who left us on December 17th, 2023, at the age of 79, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was a man whose thoughtful and intelligent presence was felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on September 4th, 1944, in South Bend, Paul's early life was marked by a dedication to education and a burgeoning sense of civic duty. He was raised in Mishawaka, Indiana. He attended Our Lady of the Lake Seminary High School, where the seeds of his future legal career were sown. Paul's academic journey continued at Indiana University, where he completed both his undergraduate degree and his law degree, laying the groundwork for a life of legal service.

On January 22nd, 1972, Paul married the love of his life, Deborah (Askren) Baldoni. Their union was one of mutual support and deep love, and together they raised a family that was both his pride and joy. Paul is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah, and their children, Nicholas (Karen) Baldoni of Haddonfield, New Jersey; Elizabeth (Scott) Schreeg of La Porte; Vanessa (Daniel) Ruminski of Fishers, Indiana; and Anthony (Stephanie) Baldoni of Evanston, Illinois. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren who called him "Nonnie", Isabella, Abigail, Jackson, and Viviana Schreeg; Creegan, Luke, and Ian Baldoni; Zachary, Alexa, and Noah Ruminski; and Bennett Baldoni. Paul also leaves behind his siblings, Mitchell (Deborah) Baldoni of San Antonio, Texas; Jimita (Phil) Potter of Granger, Indiana; Barbara Baldoni of Rockville, Maryland; and Mary (Wayne) Troiola of South Bend, who will remember him as a guiding light in their lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Libero Baldoni.

Judge Baldoni's career was one marked by distinction and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law. He retired as a Superior Court Judge after 33 years with La Porte County Superior Court #3, where his rulings reflected a blend of wisdom and compassion. His professional affiliations included the Indiana Judges Association, La Porte County and City Bar Association, the LADs Program, and Family Focus. Through these associations, he not only contributed to the legal profession but also to the well-being of his community.

Paul's interests extended beyond the courtroom. He was an interesting man with a passion for sports, particularly as an avid golfer, and fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame Football, and IU Basketball teams. His enthusiasm for his teams was infectious, and he enjoyed sharing this love with his family and friends.

As we bid farewell to Judge Baldoni, we celebrate a life well-lived, a path well-traveled, and a man well-loved. His departure leaves a void in the fabric of our community, but his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come. Judge Paul James Baldoni's story is one of dedication, service, and an unwavering commitment to the greater good, and for that, he will be profoundly missed.
