Charles Frederick Link Sr.

Charles Frederick Link Sr, 99, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, December 10th, 2023, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

 

He was born January 27th, 1924, in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Harrison J Link and Helen (Koch) Link, and was a lifelong resident of La Porte.

 

On September 22nd, 1951, Charles married the love of his life, Shirley "Tootie" Cattron, who survives.

 

Charles attended Purdue University and was a graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science, where he became a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He worked for Allis-Chalmers for 32 years as a purchasing agent and for 9 years for La Porte Hospital in the materials department. Charles was a veteran of the Army Air Force during WWII, serving in Oahu, Hawaii, and a member of the American Legion Hamon Gray Post 83 in La Porte. He was a charter member of the La Porte Evening Lion's Club and a member of the La Porte Hospital Retirees. Charles was a member of St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as financial secretary and ushered with Shirley for many years. He also served on their school board. He enjoyed gardening, raising roses, and traveling with his wife in their R.V. 

 

Along with his wife of 72 years, "Tootie", he is also survived by his son, Charles "Chuck" (Linda) Link Jr. of Granger, IN; daughter, Rosemary (Rev. David) Andermann of Sterling, IL; grandchildren, Charlotte (Sean) Shaia of Dyer, IN, Candice (Brandon) Cummings of Three Oaks, MI, Benjamin (Sarah) Andermann of Aurora, IL, Heather (Jacob) Armstrong of Eureka, IL; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Madelynn, Jamison, Isaac, Holly, Stephanie, Ivory, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

 

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marcella (Jim) Palmer, and his granddaughter, Kristin (Link) Angle of Camus, Washington.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at St John's Lutheran Church on Saturday, Dec.16th, 2023, at 12:00 noon central time, with Pastor John Albers, and Rev. David Anderman officiating. Visitation with be held prior to the service from 10:00-12:00 at the church. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, with Military Honors rendered.
