Kathleen Kaufman

Kathleen Kaufman, 74, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at her home.

She was born February 6th, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of James Japhet Jr. and Irene (Czarcinski) Japhet.

On May 23rd, 1969, in La Porte, IN, she married the love of her life, James Kaufman, who survives.

Kathleen was an active member of the Door Village United Methodist Church and their women's auxiliary group. She was a very "hands-on" person and it showed in everything she got involved in. She was an avid reader, picking up just anything she could find to read. She enjoyed bowling, roller skating, and puzzles such as Word Blitz. She also liked going to the casino and her favorite color was purple.  When it came to supporting a team, there was no bigger fan in her support for the Kentucky Wildcats. Kathleen retired from the La Porte Savings Bank after spending 29 years with 1st Source Bank in the data entry department. But Kathleen's biggest passion was her love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband of 54 years, Kathleen is survived by her son, James (Jill) Kaufman of La Porte, IN; step-son, John Kaufman of Belton, TX; step-daughter, Jean (Jim) Maxson of Noblesville, TX; sister, Carol (Dan) Bigg of La Porte, IN; eight grandchildren, Alexa (Joel Ganser) Kaufman, Larissa Mitchell, Molly Maxson, Josh Maxson, Nyle (Jerica) Maxson, Olivia Richey, Allyson Richey, Camryn Kaufman; three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Cameron, Hayden.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Sam Polito officiating from the Door Village United Methodist church.
