Phillip Smith

Phillip Smith, 89, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023, at Life Care Center of Michigan City.

 

He was born in Champaign, IL, on July 12th, 1934, to the late Phillip Smith and Margaret Mullady.

 

Phillip is survived by his son, Warren (Michelle) Smith of La Porte; daughter, Phyllis Carter of Rogers, AR; 4 grandchildren, Nicole Mazur of Rogers, AR, Noah Carter of Cottonwood Heights, UT, Ronnie Geer of Centreville, VA, and Sasha Betancourt of La Porte; 9 great-grandchildren; and many friends.

 

Phillip worked many years in the MCAS Bus Barn, as both a driver and a mechanic.  He also worked at Garwood Orchard, which he enjoyed.  Phillip was a Coolspring volunteer firefighter for over 55 years.  He enjoyed watching NASCAR, working on cars, and helping others.  Phillip will be fondly remembered for his enjoyment of Blatz beer.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at Warren's home, 0783 S. 700 W., La Porte.  

 

A time of visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service on Saturday. 

 

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family c/o Warren Smith, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN 46350, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
