Harold Allen Bennitt Jr.

Harold was born on May 26th, 1947, in LaPorte, Indiana to Harold Allen Bennitt Sr. and Helen M. (Martensen) Bennitt.

 

He passed away on November 14th, 2023, in Palm Bay Florida at home with his daughter, Michele, and son-in-law Dan, by his side.

 

Harold graduated from Rolling Prairie High School in 1966. Where he played football for four years. After graduating high school, he attended Sam’s Technical Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. There he majored in drafting, graduating in 1968. He joined local 172 Plumbers and Pipefitters. While living in LaPorte he worked for Dye Mechanical and ran Comfort Control. He was Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in LaPorte. He was also a member of the LaPorte Yacht Club.

 

After retiring Harold moved to Palm Bay, Florida where he enjoyed playing golf. He was so proud when he got his Chef’s license. He really loved to BBQ. He worked as an outside Chef at his friend’s restaurant. He enjoyed flipping his burgers and his specialty was Prime Rib. For breakfast, he made a mean eggs benedict.

 

Harold is survived by his daughter, Michele (Dan) Troche, and sister Judy (the late Ron) Harenza. Nieces Dana Ehrich and Tara Harenza. Nephews Darrin Eigenmann and John Harenza.

 

Harold is preceded in death by both parents, Harold and Helen. Sister Thelma Eigenmann and both sets of grandparents.

 

A service will be held in LaPorte at a later date.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to LaPorte County Animal Shelter or the American Cancer Society.

 

Florida arrangements are being handled by Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Home, Palm Bay, Florida. Local arrangements are being handled by Frank L. Keszei, Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, LaPorte, Indiana.
