Gene L "Cannonball" Goble

Gene L Goble, or “Cannonball” as he was much more widely known, of Hamlet passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, in his home following an illness.  He was born on August 10th, 1944, in Knox to the late Chester and Dolma (Jensen) Goble, and was 79 years old at the time of his death.

He was a hard-working, quiet, kind man.  Cannonball enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, hunting, fishing, and most of all mushroom hunting in the spring and fall.  He was a lifetime member of the LaPorte Moose, Knox American Legion S.A.L for 29 years, and a Gold Card Carrier with Local #81 in Valparaiso for 57 years.  He was most proud of his son Clint and Jennifer, Clint’s wife, and his two grandsons Bryce and Brandon. Cannonball leaves behind his wife of 55 years JoAnn, who was the love of his life and will miss him every day for the rest of her life.  He also loved his brothers and sisters dearly and visited all of them every chance he got when he was healthy.  He came from a family of fifteen and left behind many nieces and nephews who he also cared for deeply.

Cannonball is survived by his wife JoAnn of Hamlet; one son Clint (Jennifer) of Walkerton; two grandsons Bryce Goble and Brandon Goble; two brothers Dennis (Deborah) Goble of Hamlet and Dale Goble of Knox; three sisters Judy Thompson of Hamlet, Ruth Kroa of Knox, and Janie (Tony) Standifer of Hamlet; and two sisters-in-law LaVerne Goble of LaPorte and Nancy Goble of Hamlet.  He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers Don Goble, Kenny Goble, Chester “Buster” Goble, and Roger Dean Goble Sr., and five sisters Velma (Max) Duensing, Betty (Don) Nordstrom, Shirley Wilson, Nancy Thompson, and Mary Lou (Leon) Mullins; and one brother-in-law Scott Thompson.
