Homer Miller

Homer Miller, 96, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 1st, 2023 at Northwest Health-La Porte.

 

He was born August 15th, 1927 in Breathitt County, Kentucky, the son of Arzananas Miller and Laura (Stacy) Miller.

 

On June 8th, 1945, in Knox, IN, Homer married Thelma Dugan, who preceded him in death on May 9th, 2012.

 

He was a truck driver by trade as well as being an old-school professional wrestler. Homer ran a wrestler's training facility in Kingsford Heights, IN, and also refereed many events. He owned and operated the old Sunoco gas station in Kingsford Heights for twenty years as well. Homer was a skilled carpenter and a collector of yard art. He loved playing with his "big boy" toys, like his tractor and backhoe. Most important, though, was his love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Homer is survived by his daughters, Brenda Wiederhold of Ashkum, IL and Pam Audd of Equality, IL; brother, French Miller; sister, Dulcenna Tessner; five grandchildren, Michael (Dawn) Prater, Angela (Shelby) Shannon, Thomas (Heather Winslet) Prater, Steven Wiederhold, Matthew DeLa Rosa; nine great-grandchildren, Derek Prater, Shane Prater, Shawna Newton, Timothy Newton, Montana Newton, Darren Prater, Brandon Prater, Jody, Julie, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

 

Along with Thelma, his wife of 63 years, Homer was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Linda Pratt and Carol Butchard; brothers, Hoye Miller, Grover Miller, William Miller, Harlan Miller, Elmer Miller, Orin Miller; sister, Ferbie Stevens.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing Friday, November 3rd, 2023, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Homer's funeral service will take place on November 4th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Terry Phillips, officiating. Interment will follow at the Kingsbury Cemetery.
