Mary Kathryn Allen

Mary Kathryn Allen, affectionately known as Mary, passed away peacefully on October 31st, 2023, in her hometown of La Porte, Indiana. Born on January 12th, 1953, to Donald J. Slater and Shirley Ann (Schultz), Mary lived a life filled with love, creativity, and a deep devotion to her family.

 

Mary was a beacon of love and friendship, known for her warm, welcoming presence. Her thoughtful nature made her a cherished figure in the lives of those she touched. She was a dedicated wife to her loving husband, Walter Allen, whom she married on June 8th, 1990. Their bond was a testament to their shared values of love, family, and commitment.

 

Mary was a proud and loving mother to Katherine (Jason) Jacobs of Indianapolis, Christopher (Tresa) Thresh of Springfield, Tennessee, Amy (David) Shrader of South Bend, and Anna and Iaian Allen of La Porte. She also held a special place in her heart for her stepdaughter, Jennifer Reuille of La Porte. Mary's love for her family was boundless and she cherished every moment spent with them.

 

As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary's love extended to her grandchildren, Jordyn Thresh, Drake Shrader, Peyton Shrader, Brandon Grassmyer, Shelby Reuille, and her great-grandchildren, Mason Thresh, and Bryson Grassmyer. Her love for her grandchildren was evident in her every action, from her warm hugs to her homemade meals.

 

Mary had a lifelong passion for cooking, often expressing her love for her family through her delicious meals. She was also a creative arranger and decorator, filling her home with warmth and beauty. Her creativity extended to her four beloved fur babies, who brought her immense joy and companionship.

 

Mary is survived by her siblings, Diane Satkoski, Bruce (Lamoyne) Slater, Debbie (Steve) Coultas, Sandy Slater, and Donna Slater, all of La Porte. Their shared memories, laughter, and love are a testament to the strong family bonds that Mary held dear.

 

Throughout her life, Mary was a homemaker, dedicating her time and energy to creating a loving, welcoming home for her family. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, and her home was a reflection of her love and care. Her family will remember her as a loving, friendly, and thoughtful woman who put others before herself.

 

Mary Kathryn Allen will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy of love, friendship, and thoughtfulness will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of family, and the importance of kindness. As we remember Mary, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, joy, and an unwavering dedication to family.

 

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, November 4th, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana.
