Ian Lawrence Jongkind

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ian Lawrence Jongkind, who departed this world on Friday, October 27th, 2023, at the tender age of 22, in La Porte. Ian's vibrant journey began on June 22nd, 2001, when he was born to the loving embrace of James and Melissa (Wagman) Jongkind in his hometown of La Porte, Indiana.

Ian's love for his family was boundless. He leaves behind a cherished legacy and is survived by his devoted father, James (Theresa) Jongkind of La Porte; his loving mother, Melissa Jongkind of La Porte; and his beloved siblings, Adam (Maddie Betts) of Conneaut, Ohio, Wes (also known as Renee) Jongkind, and Elliot Jongkind, both residing in La Porte.  Additionally, Ian is fondly remembered by his grandfather, Josef Jongkind of Big Pine Key, Florida; his grandmother, Linda Wagman of La Porte; his girlfriend, Carlyn Stone of Highland; several caring aunts and uncles; numerous dear cousins; and countless friends.

While we grieve his passing, we also remember Ian's journey and the bright moments he shared with us. He is now reunited with his beloved grandfather, James Wagman; grandmothers, Judy Jongkind and Julie Jongkind; uncles, Andy Jongkind and Luke Wagman; as well as his aunt, Carly French, who have gone before him.

Ian's life was a beautiful journey of discovery and growth.  He was a beacon of light to his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed his path. His infectious smile and unwavering determination made him an inspiration to many. Ian was a passionate lover of diverse music genres and found immense joy in playing Dungeons and Dragons, especially excelling as the dungeon master.  He was also a proud member of the La Porte Marching Band, where he displayed his innate musical talents.

Ian's journey through education began at Hailmann Elementary School, continued onto Kesling Middle School, and culminated in his proud graduation from La Porte High School in 2020.  He was not just a student, but a beacon of intelligence and wit.  His smile was infectious and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
