Mark Anthony Steuer

Mark Anthony Steuer, a vibrant 16-year-old from La Porte, Indiana, left this world unexpectedly on Thursday, October 26th, 2023. Born on July 17, 2007, in his hometown, to loving parents Phillip and Heidi (Apfelbacher) Steuer, Mark was a shining beacon of joy and laughter for all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mark, a junior at South Central High School, was renowned for his selflessness and boundless compassion. He was an avid sports enthusiast, passionately rooting for teams like the Broncos, Cubs, and Michigan State Spartans. His adventurous side found expression in his love for gaming, fishing, and camping trips to Wisconsin. Mark's infectious humor never failed to brighten the lives of his family; he was always ready with a joke or a playful tease. His affinity for Oreos, Blue Takis, and whatever his sister had on her plate underscored the fact that his love for food was as vast as his heart. Remarkably, Mark also exhibited a mature understanding of politics well beyond his years.

Mark leaves behind a loving family: his parents, Phillip and Heidi Steuer; his siblings, Janet Sumano, Isaiah Apfelbacher, Madison Steuer, and Andrew Steuer; his grandmother, Mary Apfelbacher; and his grandfather, Roy Rogers. He is also survived by aunts, Shannon (Scottie) Mc Govern, Caroline Apfelbacher, Julie (Brian) Vergin, Jamie (Jamie) Solmos, Shelly Rogers, and Rhea (J.D.) Davis; uncles, Ryan (Michelle) Rogers, Peter Apfelbacher, and Jurgen (Mildred) Apfelbacher; along with numerous cousins and cherished friends, all of whom will dearly miss him. Mark was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margie Rogers; grandfathers, Phillip Steuer, Sr. and Pete Apfelbacher; as well as his aunt, Irma Pfost.

In a fitting tribute to Mark, a young man who reveled in humor, we recall the words of Mark Twain, who once said, "The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter." Mark wielded this weapon with mastery, spreading joy and laughter wherever he went. His memory will forever inspire those who knew him to embrace life with joy and compassion.

A celebration of Mark's life will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, at South Central High School's south gymnasium. Attendees are kindly requested to don their favorite sports team's apparel in honor of Mark's love for sports, with the exception of the White Sox. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the same location.

Though Mark Anthony Steuer's time on Earth was brief, his impact was profound. His humor, generosity, and adventurous spirit left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. While his absence is deeply felt, his memory will never fade. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
