Ina Mae Sturgill

Ina Mae Sturgill, 97, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Friday, October 20th, 2023 at Miller's Merry Manor in Walkerton, IN.

 

She was born October 14th, 1926 in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of Cornelia Meeks Dyer and Tompie (Stone) Dyer.

 

Ina graduated from Mineral Springs High School and moved to La Porte in 1944.  On July 21st, 1945, in La Porte, she married Jake Sturgill, who preceded her in death. Ina was a member of the La Porte Missionary Church and enjoyed doing church activities throughout her life. She worked for Howmet Corp., retiring in 1987 after 20 years of service. After retirement, Ina and her late husband traveled to Florida for several months in the winter, camping in their RV. She learned to weave baskets out of pine needles and made one for every member of her family. She also found a way to walk a mile every day. Ina was a very caring woman who read her Bible daily, enjoyed being with her family and friends, and helped many people along the way.

 

She is survived by her son, Bruce (Kerri) Sturgill of Weatherford, TX and Lake Zurich, IL; two daughters, Sharron (Ray) Rheinholtz of La Porte, IN, Shelly (Cliff) DeGraff of La Porte, IN; sister, Janette Webb of La Porte IN; grandchildren, Carri Schad, Kelly (Tim) Rozumalski, Megan McCuaig, Robert (Rebecca) McCuaig, Kyle (Christina) Kline, Ryan (Christine) Sturgill, Courtney DeGraff, Shawna DeGraff and 7 great-grandchildren.

 

Along with her husband Jake, Ina was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sandra (Gene) Witek; brother and sister-in-law, William and Lois Dyer; brother-in-law, Ray Webb.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with retired Pastor Carl Galloway, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Ina's honor to the La Porte Missionary Church, 104 East 18th Street, La Porte, IN 46350.
