Janet "Jan" Nadine (Pych) Schultz

Janet "Jan" Nadine (Pych) Schultz, 75, of LaPorte, Indiana passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 19th, 2023.  Jan was born on July 17th, 1948, in LaPorte, Indiana to Theodore and Beulah (Overturf) Pych. 

 

Jan received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University and taught second grade at Lincoln School for a short time before starting her family. She also worked for the LaPorte County Public Library before beginning a 30-year career as a graphic designer with the LaPorte Herald Argus newspaper. 

 

Jan was a kindhearted and giving person with a subtle wit and contagious laugh who always thought of others before herself and had a place for everyone at her table.  She had an immense love for family and lived for the times when her children, grandchildren, and extended family could all be together under the same roof.  Jan was an incredible cook and excellent baker and enjoyed making special cookies for her loved ones on their birthdays and holidays.  She was also an avid animal lover, who rescued and homed countless animals, and was a longtime member of the Independent Cat Society as well as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.   

 

On May 1st, 1982 Jan married Vencil “Vinnie” Schultz who survives, with daughters Traci (John) Savio of Marietta, Georgia, and Renee (Mike Nowak) Brainerd of Crestwood, Illinois; stepchildren, Tara (Kent) Koch of Plymouth, Indiana and Jeffrey (Rosie) Schultz of Michigan City; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Theodore, Michael, and James Pych. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and two great-grandchildren. 

 

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 26th, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana with funeral services following the visitation.   Burial will take place at Pine Lake cemetery after the funeral.
