Joan Lofgren

Joan Lofgren, 80, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, October 15th, 2023 at her home, with her loving family at her side.

She was born January 22nd, 1943, in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of John Lofgren and Mary (Hughes) Lofgren, both of whom preceded her in death.

Joan grew up in La Porte and graduated from La Porte High School. She began her career as a secretary for Attorney John Belom Sr. and moved to Joliet, Indiana. After a while, Joan was recruited by John Belom Jr. to work as his secretary in the commodities market and she commuted by train to Chicago daily. She loved and was very proud of her work. When Joan was younger, she owned horses and was a horseback rider. Over the years she collected many records and grew quite the collection. More recently, Joan enjoyed reading mysteries and science fiction and played a mean game of Farkle.  She was lovingly referred to as "direction challenged" and readily admitted that cooking wasn't her best attribute. She was, however, a social butterfly and loved having others cook for her. She was a kind woman who would do anything for anybody, but most especially for her wonderful family and friends.

Joan adored her dogs, Wheedle, Glory, Frizette, and Rudy, all of whom preceded her in death.

Joan had 5 brothers and sisters, Carole (Richard) Wampler (d.), Jay ( Bonnie) Lofgren, Richard Lofgren (d.) (Margaret), Sharon Vegter, Judy Lofgren (d.); 11 nieces and nephews and 27 great nieces and nephews, namely:  Patti (John) Reichenbach and their children, Matt (Abbey) Reichenbach, Brian (Dani) Reichenbach, John Robert Reichenbach; Ben (Anita) Lofgren and their children, Ben (Amy) Corridon, Scott (Shelby) Lofgren; Annie (Eddie) Moss and their children, Travis Moss, Tracy Spier (d.)
