William Lester “Sonny” Wright, 85, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana passed away Tuesday, October 17th, 2023.  He was born on January 13th, 1938, to Pearl (Perish) and Lester Wright. 

 

Sonny owned and operated a Marathon and then a Phillips 66 station from the mid 60’s to mid 80’s. He retired as an Insurance Agent. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Polish Falcons. In the old days, he would travel to Las Vegas. He also wintered in Florida where he would enjoy the early specials for dinner. Gun Smoke was his favorite TV show. Most recently, he enjoyed playing euchre at the La Porte Senior Center every week. 

 

On June 14th, 1958, Sonny married Barbara Diane Bumgardner who preceded him in death on July 15th, 2012. He was also preceded by his parents, a son, Billy Wright on August 17th, 2007, and a special friend Charlotte Baugh.  

 

Sonny is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Tim) Kincaid of Rolling Prairie; grandchildren, Briann (T.J.) Kessler of Rolling Prairie, Taylor (Austin) Farlie of Rolling Prairie, Courtney Wright of Dallas, Texas, Jericah Wright of Mesquite, Texas; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Wyatt, Harlow, Walker, Margo, Kameron, Jaslynn, Jaquin Jr, Samaryiah, William “Liam”; a sister, Gloria Mrozinski of La Porte; a sister-in-law, Stacie (J.R.) Hartsaw; and a brother-in-law, Pudge Bumgardner. 

 

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, October 23th, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m.

 

Burial will follow at Door Village Cemetery.
