Chester E. Carpenter, 90, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away the morning of Sunday, September 24th, 2023.

 

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 29th, 2023 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Friday at the funeral chapel. The Moose will conduct a ceremony at 11:45 a.m. prior to the service.

 

Chester was born on December 10th, 1932, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to the late Leslie and Margaret (Stafford) Carpenter, Sr. On April 8, 1961, in Porter County, in Indiana, he married Ethel M.(Fuller) Carpenter, who preceded him in death December 21st, 2016.

 

Surviving are four daughters, Cynthia Carpenter, Luzette (Jerry Williamson) Patejdl, Cheryl (Marty) Baron, and Diana (Jack) Souligny; one brother, Leslie (Darlene) Carpenter, Jr.; one sister, Sandy (Butch) Fitzer; two sisters-in-law, Diane Hack and Laurel Burns; five grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren. Preceding in death were his son, Timothy Wightman, Sr; two grandsons, Chadwick Thompson and Timothy Wightman, Jr; and two great-granddaughters. Also, three sisters, Arlene Bos, Sharon Anderson, and Sandy Michaels; and three brothers, Donald Carpenter, Dennis Carpenter, and Roger Ward.

 

Chester was a production scheduler at Bethlehem Steel. He held a lifetime membership with Moose Family Center 980, Michigan City. He always enjoyed his daily readings of the local newspaper, playing cards, and formerly bowled tournaments with the Moose. He must have been born under a lucky star as he had always got winners on scratch off tickets and games of Bingo and cards. Chester was a loving, kind and generous man. He was a positive influence on many lives and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
