Everett Emmett Atwood, Sr.

Everett Emmett Atwood, Sr. passed away peacefully Sunday, September 17th at Northwest Health-La Porte. He was born in Lynd, Minnesota on July 24th, 1932 to Howard and Hattie Atwood. He lived most of his early life in Minnesota. His family moved to LaPorte during WWII when his father worked at Allis Chalmers. He attended Stillwell school for several years until his family moved back to Minnesota after the end of the war. He returned to LaPorte in the mid 1950’s to work and raise his family. He worked at Plimpton Press, Clark Equipment and retired from Verizon after 25 years.

 

Everett was an excellent mechanic having restored a 1932 Plymouth. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and cutting wood with Jerry and Don. He was a skilled woodworker who built cabinets, beds, dressers and chairs for his family. His most accomplished piece was a roll-top desk which he was very proud of. He also enjoyed his Saturday morning breakfasts with his friend, Kenny.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Madalyn (Richard) Belzowski, Everett (Debra) Atwood Jr., and Alan (Crystal) Atwood: 6 grandchildren, Marla Belzowski, Valerie Lester, Anissa (Michael) Haack, Jason (Kristen) Atwood, Brian (Tammy) Atwood & Samuel (Chelsi) Atwood: 12 great grandchildren; sister Janice Owens.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Betty Atwood; son, Leslie Atwood; sisters Vivian Pearcy, Ernestine Frohm, Audrey Fletcher, Peggy Fletcher, Vera Mae Matthewson and Joan Stradley; and brother, Dale Atwood, who was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne and killed on D-Day in Normandy.

 

Private services will be held for the family.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN.  Private interment will take place at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
