Janet Lillian Connett

Janet Lillian Connett, 94, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 at Life Care Center in Michigan City, surrounded by her loved ones.

 

She was born April 29th, 1929 in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Rudolph Krug and Emma (Liedtke) Krug.

 

On May 27th, 1947, in Michigan City, she married James Milton Connett, who preceded her in death September 20th, 2022. Janet was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Lee Winski; brother, James Krug; and great-grandson, Miller Bradley House.

 

A lifelong resident of the area, Janet was a homemaker who also helped out with the family business, Connett Cookie Company. She was a wonderful cook, always making sure everyone was well fed. An avid gardener, her beautiful Daylillies were well known in the community, even winning a Terra Verde award. Janet was interested in organic vegetable gardening many years before it was in vogue. As a seamstress, she created many things, including Teddy Bears, Christmas stockings, night gowns and whole wardrobes for the entire family. Janet was an amateur photographer and a longtime Vivian with the Elks Lodge. She loved golf and roller skating, which is how she met her handsome husband. Together, they traveled internationally to such places as Spain, Germany and Switzerland and around the U.S. in their R.V.  Janet was a wonderful mother, grandmother and wife who took very good care of her family and will be greatly missed.

 

She is survived by her two daughters, Heather Anne (Richard) Slater of La Porte, IN, Kimberly (Gail) House of Canton, GA; son, Gilbert Alan (Yvonne) Connett of Stagecoach, CO; two sisters, Dorothy Jenkins of Michigan City, IN, Sharon (Jerry) Diffee of Fallbrook, CA; son-in-law, Robert Winski of La Porte, IN; grandchildren, Traci (Sean) Steder, Gregory Slater, Pamela House, Bradley (Courtney) House, John Connett, Jeffrey (Melissa) Connett, Kathryn (Jason) Mitschelen, James Winski; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Hannah Steder, Pepper and Harper Connett, Elizabeth Winski, Emma Mitschelen, Aubrey Staback, Brewer House and several nieces and nephews.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN. Cremation will take place and Janet will be buried with her husband in Heckman Cemetery at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janet's name to the Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
