Mary Wadsworth-Cooke

Mary Wadsworth-Cooke, 89, of La Porte, passed away on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023.  She was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on June 14th, 1934 to Freda (Grundeling) and Frederick Buekes.

 

In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Mary was a cherished friend.  Her warm smile, infectious laughter, and genuine interest in others, endeared her to everyone she met.  Mary had a remarkable ability to make people feel valued and loved; her smile brightened any room she entered.  She was a devout member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

 

Mary is survived by two sons, Phillip (Laura) Wadsworth of Michigan City and Dale (Joy) Wadsworth of La Porte; four stepsons, Dr. John (Azita) Cooke of Sanford, FL, Dr. James (Terri) Cooke of Atlanta, GA, Dr. David (Jeannette) Cooke of Berrien Springs, MI, and Dr. Daniel (Becky) Cooke of Granger, IN; and one granddaughter, Eowyn Boyd. 

 

On April 15th, 1984 in Chicago, IL, she married Dr. Weldon Cooke, who preceded her in death. 

 

Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rona Swain; and son, Arthur Wadsworth.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, La Porte with Pastor Lee officiating.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Sunday at the church.
