James K. Herbst, 67 of Kingsford Heights, Indiana passed away Monday, August 28th, 2023. He was born on August 22nd, 1956, in La Porte to the late Alfred and Juanita (Young) Herbst. 

 

James served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post #434 in Kingsford Heights.  He was also a member of the Polish Falcons Nest 564, La Porte. He retired from New York Blower after 36 years of service.  He loved spending time with his family, playing pool, Purdue football and the New Orleans Saints. He was loved by many and was the life of the party. 

 

On September 15th, 1979, James married Tina M. Dayton who survives with their children, Jeremy Herbst of La Porte, Alison (Joe) Travis of Crown Point, Indiana, Julie (Josh) Thompson of La Porte; grandchildren, Madilynn Herbst, Alayna Herbst, Macy Herbst, Rebekah Travis; and a sister, Janet Peterson of La Porte. He was preceded by his siblings, Jerry Herbst, Fred Herbst, Sharolyn Geren, and Jack Herbst.

 

Cremation has taken place with Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel in La Porte.
