LeRoy "Rausch" Rauschenbach

LeRoy "Rausch" Rauschenbach, 87, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born May 12th, 1936 in Chicago, IL, the son of John Rauschenbach and Lillian (Styma) Rauschenbach.

A lifelong resident of the area, LeRoy graduated from La Porte High School where he was a three-sport athlete; lettering in track, basketball, and baseball. After graduating high school, LeRoy joined the United States Army where he continued his passion of playing baseball. Following his time in the Army, he spent the majority of his life working as a Cartographer, or map maker rather, for the United States Government.  On March 20th, 1976, at the Springville Free Methodist Church, he married his best friend Norma Jean (Bannwart) Rauschenbach. Together, they attended church regularly and spent many years traveling throughout the United States, Europe, and embarking on several Alaskan cruises. It did not matter where they were, as long as they were together, they would have the best time. LeRoy was an avid Cubs fan. During baseball season you were sure to find him cozied up in his recliner with a Raspberry Sweet Tea and watching the big game. He loved and valued nothing more than spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him the most joy. He looked forward to holidays home with the family; especially Christmas time and playing the White Elephant Game. LeRoy's smile and laughter were contagious. With his sense of humor, funny stories, and his made-up songs he was sure to bring a smile to your face.

He is survived by his two sons, Mark (Carol) Rauschenbach of La Porte, IN, Tim Rauschenbach of Naples, FL; daughter, Deborah (Raymond Jr.) Rheinholtz of La Porte, IN; ten grandchildren, Zachary Hopper, Rachel Melnychenko, Jennifer (Doug) Wiles, Rachel (Jeremy) Bradnick, Raymond (Ashley) Rheinholtz III, Olivia Rauschenbach, Bradley Rauschenbach, Logan Rauschenbach, Sloane Rauschenbach, Palmer Rauschenbach, Marie (Francisco) Rauschenbach-Rodriguez; and 19 great-grandchildren.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Norma, son, Terry Rauschenbach, and brother, John Rauschenbach, Jr.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, August 28th, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Springville Community Church in Springville, IN, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kurt Feneley officiating.
