Iona Faye Gring

Iona Faye Gring, 93, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, August 18th, 2023 at Settlers Place in La Porte.

 

She was born July 26th, 1930 in New Carlisle, Indiana, the daughter of Joseph Raymond Bealor and Ruth (Peer) Bealor.

 

A lifelong resident of the area, Iona was a homemaker and member of Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church. On May 21st, 1950, she married the love of her life, William Gaylord Gring Jr., who preceded her in death January 8th, 2008. Together, they were avid ballroom dancers, causing excitement in the crowd whenever they took the floor. They traveled together around the world and across America. Iona worked as Bill's secretary at State Farm throughout the years as well as drove a school bus for La Porte and Rolling Prairie. She served the community by having memberships in the Elks Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 260 and the Lions Club, as well as being a 67-year member and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Iona enjoyed golfing, singing, crocheting and was a beautiful seamstress. She had a keen eye for jigsaw puzzles and was renowned by her friends at Settlers Place. Most of all though, she adored her family and will be greatly missed by all who survive, including;  three daughters, Gayle (Dan) DeMass of LaPorte, IN, Sandra (Robert) Miller of Valparaiso, IN, Carol (Stephen) Cave of Elkhart, IN; her son, Delwyn  (Patricia) Gring of Fish Lake, IN; grandchildren; Koreen (Matthew) Garrett, Kaitlin (Jason) Tuholski, Jeffery (Amanda) DeMass, Rebecca (Sean Hessler) Rinker, Kellie Rinker, Michelle Miller, Julie Wilhelm, Cheryl (Randy) Campbell, Thomas ( Kim) Prosser, Marc Cave, Johnell (Christopher) Arland, Quentin Cave, Mitchell Gring, Karen Casey, Sharon (Zachary) Rose; 31 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

 

Along with her husband, Iona was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Joseph, Roland (Gene), Clifford, Richard, David, and Willard Bealor, and a half brother Robert Cuskaden; sisters, Sandra Parker and Ruth Kirkland and son-in-law Guy Rinker.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 10:00 to 12:00 noon.  A Celebration of Iona's Life service will follow at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jo Ellyn Chadwick, Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church.  Cremation will take place, with interment at a later date at Rolling Prairie Cemetery.
