Judith Alice Eveland

Judith Alice Eveland, 79, of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday,
August 13th, 2023 at Aviva of Valparaiso Assisted Living Center in Valparaiso, IN.
She was born June 9th, 1944 in Marquette, Michigan, to George Summers and Alice (Juvani) Summers.

 

Judy was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She graduated from
Graveraet High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University. On June 22nd, 1968, she married Larry Eugene Eveland at the First United Methodist Church in Marquette, Michigan. She taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Gilbert Elementary in Gwinn, Michigan until her retirement in the summer of 1999, making her the longest tenured teacher in the district. Following retirement, Judy and Larry moved to Valparaiso, Indiana.

 

Judy loved reading novels and watching the Green Bay Packers, but most of all, she loved her family. She adored her grandchildren and loved having them for sleepovers. Judy was a warm, nurturing person who always had a kind word and a compliment to share, and her capacity for gratitude was immeasurable. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel special and loved. She will be deeply missed.

 

Judy is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Sarah (Josh) Elzinga of Wanatah, IN; step-son, Charlie Harper of Fargo, ND; two step-daughters, Char (Mark) Ellinwood of Wauseon, OH, Cathy (Rob) Burleson of Bakersville, NC; eight grandchildren, Annabelle, Luci, Sarah Grace, Elisha, Brandon, Megan, Moriah, and Rebecca; eight great-grandchildren; niece, Debbie (Jon) Veiht; and nephew, Michael Summers.

 

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George Summers, Jr., and grandchild, Dustin.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, IN where the family will host a gathering of friends to share memories Sunday, August 27th, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cremation will take place.
