Richard Mikel Smith, 72, of La Porte, passed away on Sunday, August 13th, 2023 at Aperion Care Arbors at Michigan City. 

   

Richard  was born in Chicago, IL, on October 16, 1950 to Kenneth Clifford and Dorothy Marie (Sonniker) Smith. 

 

On July 19th, 2008 in La Porte, IN, he married Andrea who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Richard Smith Jr. for IL and Brittiney Smith of La Porte; stepchildren, Roy J. Kresel and Susan A. Kresel of La Porte; 2 grandchildren, Lily and Vida Mendoza; siblings, Kenny Smith of AR and Carol Reiger of IL; wonderful mother-in-law, Norma Volstorf; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Richard proudly served in the United States Air Force.

 

Richard was a security officer for over 10 years at Blue Chip Casino.  He enjoyed coloring with ultra fine Sharpies and Legos.

 

A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18th, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.  Cremation will take place following the service.
