Herman William Edward Koch, 90, of New Carlisle, Indiana, (formerly of Hamlet, Indiana) passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 9th, 2023 at Northwest Health-La Porte. 

 

He was born September 22nd, 1932 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Herman Koch and Sarah (Otter) Koch.

 

A lifelong resident of the area, Herman graduated from Union Township High School. Following high school he pursued many aspirations with the most recent being working for Town Crier Newspaper where he retired in 1998. On January 12th, 1952, in La Porte, Herman married Patricia (Schoff) Koch who preceded him in death September 15th, 2017. He was an active member of the Tracy Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hamlet, IN where he was an elder and volunteered as a youth group leader. He also held several offices at the church. Outside of the church, Herman was involved in the 4-H community. He was a 4-H Leader for 12 years and was a member and chairman of the County 4-H Council. He was intricate in making changes to leadership elections in 4-H. Herman at one point even spent time as a Little League Coach. He had many other passions, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, doing puzzles, gardening and most of all farming. Herman absolutely loved talking about farming; he always said it was where his heart truly was. Most importantly Herman cherished his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with family. 

 

Herman is survived by his two daughters, Deborah (Lance) Dunn of Edwardsburg, MI, Rebecca (David) Wirebaugh of Walkerton, IN; two sons, Kirk (Darlene) Koch of Menominee, WI, Mark (Katherine) Koch of La Porte, IN; sister, Ellie Wilson of Loman, MN; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

 

Herman was preceded in death by his two brothers, Glen Koch and John Koch; his sisters, Ruth Lewis and Ruby Berg and niece and nephew, Rita and David Koch.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, August 11th, 2023 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  A life celebration will be held at Tracy Immanuel Lutheran Church, Saturday, August 12th, 2023 at 11am with Pastor David Albertine officiating. Cremation will take place. Interment will take place at a later date at the Tracy Cemetery in Hamlet, IN.
