Michael D. Meer Sr.

Michael D. Meer Sr., 78, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 19th, 2023, at Life Care Center in Michigan City, IN.

He was born May 8th, 1945, in Michigan City, Indiana, the son of Donald Meer and Theresa (Milcarek) Meer.

Following high school, Michael served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later pursued a career as a bus driver for the City of Michigan City until his retirement. Michael was an active member of the VFW Post 1130 and both American Legion Post 37 and 83. Throughout his life, he received multiple military honors. Outside of the military, Michael had many passions in life. He adored his furry friends, his cats, Lucy and Amelia and loved motorcycles, doing puzzles, fishing, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was well known for his sense of humor; always coming up with the funniest sayings and nicknames for the ones he loved most. Michael wore his hat everywhere he went and no one was allowed to touch his hat, aside from his grandson Landyn, and he was to make sure of it. Michael had the biggest, and kindest heart and he will truly be missed by many.

He is survived by his three daughters, Margaret Meer, Sharon Wright of Michigan City, IN, and Kristi (James) Stemmler of La Porte, IN; six grandchildren, Dominique Meer, Christian Meer, Easton Meer, Landyn Meer, Allen Meer, Charlie Meer, and several nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Vicki Meer, son, Michael Meer, Jr., two daughters, Michelle Meer and Maureen Meer.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN. A private burial has already taken place with the family.
