Cheryl L. Pumroy

Cheryl L. Pumroy, 65, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday July 1st, 2023 at Northwest Health-La Porte with her family by her side.

 

She was born November 13th, 1957 in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Emerson "Bud" Dawson and Jeanne (Stark) Dawson.

 

A lifelong resident of the area, Cheryl was a member of the United Methodist Church of Rolling Prairie and enjoyed attending services there. As well as being a homemaker, Cheryl was employed as the Sr. Team leader for Jaeger-UniTek and had worked for both La Porte and New Prairie School systems. She was also a supervisor at Howmet and 25 years. On July 21, 1979, in Kingsford Heights, IN, she married Barry Pumroy, who survives. She and Barry loved walking the pier out to the Lighthouse and collecting driftwood along the beach. She also enjoyed hiking and had hiked in many National Parks in the Western states.Cheryl was known for baking her apple pie slices with her beloved grandchildren and made aprons for each of them to wear while baking. She enjoyed baking cakes for the people she worked with. 

 

Along with her husband of 43 years, Cheryl is survived by her two sons, Chris (Jeanna Miller) Pumroy of La Porte, IN, Brent (Holly Lawson) Pumroy of Michigan City, IN; daughter, Cathy (Tony) Walker of Hudson Lake, IN; brother, Steve (Louann) Dawson of Michigan City, IN; two sisters, Diane (Fred) Klinder of Michigan City, IN, Judy (Terry) Schroeder of GA; five grandchildren, Blake and Lilah Walker, Ava, Halyn and Braxton Pumroy; 

 

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia Bartholomew.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, IN. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Rolling Prairie Saturday, July 15th with visitation from 9:30 am until service time at 11:30 am. with Pastor JoEllyn Chardwick officiating.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Cheryl's name to the UMC of Rolling Prairie.
