Patrick Glen Chenoweth, known with affection as Pat, has been called home by our Lord and Savior. His earthly journey began on July 30th, 1949, in Danville, IL, where he was born to Elmo Charles "Chuck" and Mable Marie (Conner) Chenoweth. The good Lord decided to call him home on June 30th, 2023, and Pat left this world peacefully at his home in South Bend, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife and family.
Pat was a man of unwavering faith, embodying the spirit of his favorite verse, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life...will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39). He was a faith-filled servant of the Lord, whose love for his family and friends was a testament to his Christ-like character. His kindness and love radiated to all who knew him, and he will be remembered for his unwavering faith and his gentle, loving spirit.
In 1973, in the beautiful city of South Bend, IN, Pat united in holy matrimony with Linda Louise Zellers. Their blessed union was graced with two children, Adam (Molly) Chenoweth of New Carlisle, and Heather (Julio Rodriguez) Chenoweth of Harvard, Illinois. Pat was also blessed with three grandchildren, Gabriel Rodriguez of Harvard, Illinois, and Dillon and Cadence Chenoweth of New Carlisle. His family extended beyond blood relations, with numerous nieces, nephews, friends who became family, and family who were friends.
Pat was preceded in glory by his parents and siblings, Joseph Chenoweth, Elizabeth Colt, and Martha Dobrzykowski. Yet, we take comfort knowing that they have been reunited in the everlasting kingdom of Heaven.
Pat's diligent work ethic was evident in his various roles at Claey's Distributing Company, Enyert Electric Repair, LeSea, and La Porte County Parks. A long-standing and faithful member of the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church for 42 years, where Pat served the Lord and his community with dedication. His joy was found in the simple pleasures of life - spending time with his grandchildren, going on car rides, watching the waves, enjoying bonfires, and fishing. Pat was a gifted storyteller, finding humor and wisdom in the everyday. His stories about the family dog were particularly cherished, filled with wit and warmth that encapsulated his unique perspective on life. His ability to turn the mundane into the extraordinary was a gift that he shared generously, creating laughter and joy wherever he went.
In addition to his storytelling prowess, Pat was a dedicated Notre Dame fanatic. His love for Irish Footbal ran deep, and he was often seen proudly sporting the gold and green colors. His loyalty to the Fighting Irish was unwavering and infectious, and his enthusiasm for the team was a source of delight and camaraderie for all who knew him.
Beyond his storytelling and sports fanaticism, Pat was a man of deep loyalty. His steadfastness was a cornerstone of his character, making him a reliable friend, a devoted family man, and a respected member of his community. His unwavering commitment to those he loved and the causes he believed in was a testament to his strength of character and generous spirit.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in honor of our beloved Pat at New Carlisle Wesleyan Church. Reverend Donald Bayne will be officiating the service on Saturday, July 8th, 2023, at 12 noon (Eastern). Pat will be laid to rest at New Carlisle Cemetery, enveloped by the love and prayers of his family and friends.
Prior to the service, there will be a visitation at the church from 4 - 8 p.m. (Eastern) on Friday, July 7th, 2023, and from 11 a.m. (Eastern) until the time of the service at the church. This will be a time for all who loved Pat to come together, share memories, and celebrate his life.
In the words of the great Christian author, C.S. Lewis, "The fact that our heart yearns for something Earth can't supply is proof that Heaven must be our home." As we mourn the absence of our beloved Pat, we find solace in knowing that he is now at peace in his heavenly home.
Let us remember Pat, not with sadness, but with gratitude for his life, his love, and his unwavering faith. Amen.
