Edward Harold Gustum, 86, of La Porte, passed away on Thursday, June 29th, 2023 at his home, surrounded by family.

 

Edward was born on June 5th, 1937 in Duluth, MN, to Harold Oscar and Lily Myrtle Christine (Wickstrom) Gustum.

 

On June 29th, 1969 in Iowa Falls, IA, he married Judith "Judy" Ann Bourne who survives.  Also surviving are his daughters, Cynthia (Christian) Scheuchner of La Porte and Kimberly (Charles Clay) Payne of La Porte; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Mary (Larry) Carlson of San Jose, CA and Dorothy (Ted) Hedberg of St. James, MN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Edward proudly serviced in the Air National Guard.  He was honorably discharged in 1960.

 

He was a sales representative for many years at Graco, Cornelius Co., Phillips Drill, and Kabelin Ace Hardware.  Edward was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Canterbury Theatre, Antique Auto Club, and previously, the Boy Scouts.

 

Edward enjoyed woodworking, fishing, water skiing, running, racing, snow skiing, traveling, camping, boating, hiking, cooking, grilling, and participating in his church choir.  Edward's hobbies included stamp collecting, coin collecting, and photography.  He was fortunate to be able to visit all 50 states.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 14th, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Michigan City, with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 13th, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Military Honors presented at 5 p.m.  Visitation at the church will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
