Gary Richard Travis, 71, of La Porte, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, June 28th, 2023 at Franciscan Health Michigan City. 

   

Gary was born in La Porte, IN, on March 24th, 1952 to Glenn and Teresa (Gould) Travis. 

 

On November 12th, 1971 in La Porte, IN, he married Vicki Steigely who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Dylan Travis of La Porte and Allison (Kelly) Burke of La Porte; 5 grandchildren, Bailey Travis of Muncie, Lillian and Charlie Burke of La Porte, and Farrah and Jackson Coddington of La Porte; siblings, Tom (Jayne) Travis, Kathy (David) Deneau, and Kristine Travis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Gary was a behavioral psychologist for 40 years.  He earned his master's degree from Ball State University.

 

He was a member of the Beechwood Men's Club and the Michigan City F.O.P.  Gary enjoyed golfing, playing guitar, listening to music and woodworking, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 6th, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023  and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at a later date.
