Harold David Reed II, 80, of La Porte, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26th, 2023, at Brentwood at La Porte. Known as Dave to his friends and family, he was a wise, generous, and selfless man who touched the lives of many throughout his time with us.

Dave was born in La Porte, on June 26th, 1943, to Harold David and Virginia Louise (Knoll) Reed. He grew up in a loving home and cherished the time spent with his parents, brother, and sister. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosemary.

On August 14th, 1965, in La Porte, IN, he married Donna who survives.  Also surviving Dave are his daughter, Jill (Scott) Myers of La Porte; 2 grandchildren, Molly Reed and Troy Myers; and brother, Bill (Barb) Reed of La Porte.

Dave dedicated his life to education and coaching, working for over 40 years as a history teacher and coach, most recently at Boston Middle School. He was a mentor to countless students and athletes, helping them grow not only in their academic and athletic pursuits but also in their character. Dave's wisdom and guidance led his teams to win multiple high school state championships, leaving a lasting legacy in the La Porte community.

His outstanding contributions to athletics were recognized through his membership in the La Porte Athletic Hall of Fame, the Slicer Baseball Hall of Fame, and the La Porte Football Hall of Fame. Dave's passion for sports was matched only by his love for gardening and working in his yard, where he found peace and solace.

Above all, Dave cherished the time spent with his family, especially his beloved granddaughter. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, always putting the needs of his family before his own.
