Eben F. Fisher, Jr.

Eben F. Fisher, Jr. 90, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Monday, June 19th, 2023. He was born on March 23rd, 1933, in Crown Point, Indiana to Eben F. Fisher Sr. and Mary Jane (Hildebrand) Fisher.  

 

On April 11th, 1953, Eben married Patricia M. Zellers at St. Peter Catholic church in La Porte and together they celebrated 70 years of marriage.  Pat Fisher survives along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Fisher and Kenneth Schultz; and sisters, Catherine Brietfield, Rose Mellencamp, Delores Ruddick, and Ethel Smallwood. 

 

Eben retired from McGill Manufacturing Company in Valparaiso as a Tool and Die Designer. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, St. Peter Church and formerly the St. Peter’s gardening angel committee. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. 

 

Eben was a member of the American Legion Post 83 in La Porte, Veterans of Foreign Wars in La Porte, Knights of Columbus, St. Michael’s Council # 1542. 

 

Eben graduated in 1951 from Union Mills High School and played on the 1950 Union Mills Sectional Championship Basketball team that beat Michigan City. He graduated from the Acme Tool and Die School in South Bend.

 

Early in his life, he was involved with Babe Ruth Baseball for 25 years. He loved woodworking, working in his yard, attending Notre Dame Football Games as well as Lady Irish Basketball. He also loved attending Slicer sporting events. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. He loved life! 

 

Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. followed by burial at Door Village Cemetery with Military Honors.
