Sheri Carol Brown

Sheri Carol Brown, 62, passed away on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023.

Sheri was born on June 11th, 1960, in South Bend, Indiana, to Dick Wilder and Priscilla (Eddy) Tamlin.  She was later adopted by Francis McGinnis.

Sheri graduated from Elston High School in 1978 and lived in Michigan City for many years before moving to West Virginia. Although she loved the rolling hills of Appalachia, the Midwest was always her home and she spent the later part of her life in Northwest Indiana. Sheri was a talented, prolific, and creative artist, turning thread and fabric into highly praised and sought after heirlooms. She also made many decorative bags, home décor, and her microwave bowl koozies were not only clever but very useful, but Sheri is mostly known for amazing quilts. Her quilts are breathtaking and her talents lauded. Sheri was a featured artist at the Tamarack, West Virginia’s Finest, a juried marketplace for artisans in Beckley, West Virginia. She was a leader in her local Moon & Stars Quilters Guild, sharing her management and artistic skills.

Sheri had a diverse work history, from a waitress to an award-winning manager in the finance industry where she took losing offices, made them profitable, and ranked number one in their districts. She used her creative abilities to make and sell silk flower arrangements, later leading her fabric works of art. Sheri returned to food as a skilled cook at Miller's Merry Manor in Walkerton, Indiana, but nothing can compare to her role as a mother, supportive sister, and doting grandmother.

Surviving Sheri are her children, Joshua (Rachel) Sager of Pittsburgh, PA and Jamie (Jimi) Moore of Hurricane, WV; 3 grandchildren, Eliza Moore, Sylar Moore, and Ellie Sager; sisters, Debbie (Sam) Emmerson of Arlington, TX, Lisa (Kevin) Mansfield of Michigan City, Kim (Brian) Landis of La Porte, and Dori (Dave) Wiegand of Michigan City; brother, Doug (Laura) McGinnis of Nebo, WV; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sheri brightened every room she walked into and always helped those in need. She had a big heart and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Cremation took place at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.  A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, June 11th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kesling Park shelter #4 in La Porte.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family c/o Joshua Sager, 1221 Denisonview St, Pittsburgh PA 15205.
